BIOGRAPHY

Maël Graa is a Swiss tenor whose musical journey began at the Lausanne Conservatory. He debuted in 2007 as the title role in Britten’s The Little Sweep at the Opéra de Lausanne. He soon gained stage experience in productions such as La Bohème, Carmen (2008), and The Magic Flute (Erste Knabe, 2010), and refined his ensemble singing with Les Vocalistes under Henri Farge and Philippe Huttenlocher.

Passionate about a broad artistic range, Maël has performed in musical theatre (Gavroche in Les Misérables, 2009) and in original stage productions like Je ne sais pas and L’Enfant et la nuit. From 2012 to 2016, he explored jazz and improvisation (voice and flute) at École de Jazz et de Musique actuelles in Lausanne.

In parallel with his artistic training, he earned a Master’s in History and Latin from the University of Lausanne (2021), having previously completed a high school program for elite young artists. During this time, he also trained with tenor Stuart Patterson.

In 2023, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Singing from the Haute École de Musique in Neuchâtel with Jeanne Roth and Susanne Schimmack, followed by a Master’s in Vocal Performance in 2025 at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne, under Jean-François Rouchon.

Maël is currently active with several renowned ensembles, including the Académie vocale de Suisse romande, Ensemble Orlando, Schweizer Vocalconsort, the choruses of Lausanne Opera and Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, where he also appears as a soloist.

Maël’s repertoire spans early to contemporary music, including works by Monteverdi, Bach, Purcell, Händel, as well as modern composers such as Schnyder, Henze, Kagel, and Zwahlen. He also collaborated with conductors like Daniel Reuss, Stephan MacLeod and Leonardo García Alarcón.
